#1: A few changes 🍷
Say hello to Dosage, where I'm looking into the world of wine and food pairings 🍷
Hello folks!
It’s been a LONG time since I’ve posted here, so sorry to leave you on tenterhooks). I bid RIP to Siamsa 🪦 It’s probably a hazy memory for most, but it was fun to write albeit short.
So, say hello to Dosage 👋
Here, I’m going to be exploring the wonderful world of wine. A little bit left field compared to evidence based wellness, granted.
I’ve dug deep to work out I want to do in my spare time and with my creative juice, not what I think I should be doing. My job has pivoted to allow me bring evidence based content in the glamorous space of health tech, so I need a little bit of breathing space with that in mind.
Since I was a charmingclumsy waiter the guts of a decade ago, wine’s been enchanting to me - but I’ve never really seen it as something more than drinking. Now my fourth decade is rapidly approaching, I’m doubling down on learning as much as I can - and am fizzing like a fresh Moscato D’Asti ever since.
Why am I sharing my nerding out on vino, you may ask. There’s such a gap in learning about wine, as it’s perceived as snobby or inaccessible. We’re terrified if we can’t find a Merlot or Pinot Grigio in an offy or a wine list, when you’re missing out on *gasps* - something you might prefer. It’s the equivalent of going out to eat and ordering exactly the same thing each time.
On another swing of the spectrum, wine is having quite the moment with buzzwords such as pet nat and low intervention. Wine bars in my Borough are going to be more flush than Tesco Express at the rate they’re popping up. They’re churning out merch, which is feeling a little reminiscent of the chokehold that Abercrombie and Fitch had on mid noughties teens: a symbol of coolness, but focus who you’re trying to impress rather than if you think you’re drinking piss. “I only drink natural wine” and “Have you got anything with skin contact?” are starting to feel like the Live Laugh Love of Hackney millennials.
I was lucky to have a mentor to help me learn about wine which has helped me to know the ABCs of different varieties, but I’m still very naive as to what makes a good producer or wine. And I think that this is still a big gap in the market I am more than happy to ramble on about in long form content. Also, so much of the information on wine is prescriptive, which is total bull. Want a white wine with a steak? You do you, boo!
Glad you can join me on the early stages of this journey as I try and bring you on a journey of how to get into wine in a more accessible, entertaining way.
As this has totally pivoted since you originally subscribed, please don’t feel I’m holding you here. Please reach out if there’s anything that you would like me to cover by replying to this email. My chaotic content planner and I always appreciate some steer.
Expect something at least fortnightly in your inbox while I get this up and running. Before I leave you, why not share it with a wine enthusiast? You can do so by clicking the button below ⬇️
